Cerro San Cristobal Chile

Parque Metropolitano, Santiago Metropolitan Region, Central Chile

Cerro San Cristobal Chile, a very popular landmark, is a hill situated in Santiago’s Parque Metropolitano which offers beautiful panoramic views of the city and, on a clear day, the majestic Andes mountains. The summit of San Cristobal is crowned by a giant statue of the Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepcion which weighs in at 82,000 lbs (37,000 kilos) and is 49 feet (15 meters) high.

Visitors gather here to pray, meditate or simply relish the view of the city from the large terrace balcony.  There is also a quaint, stone church just a few steps below the base of the statue.

To reach the summit, you can ride a cablecar (funicular), drive, bike, or hike.

The funicular railway which travels 1.25 miles (2,030 meters) on a cable railway is held by two towers. Visitors can get on or off at the intermediary stations on the way up or down from the summit to enjoy other attractions located on this hill. This allows travelers access to the Victoria Fortified Tower, the Botanical Garden, and the Winery Museum and the Tupahue swimming pool, where hundreds of natives of Santiago meet to sunbathe and share good times with friends. The Municipal Zoo can be enjoyed by grown-ups and children who enjoy contact with animals such as giraffes, monkeys, condors, pudus (diminutive Andean antelope), and more.

This railway system was opened to the public in 1980 and, since then, continues to be one of the major attractions for height enthusiasts or those who enjoy antique funiculars. for height enthusiasts or those who enjoy antique funiculars.
