Wine Tours in the Aconcagua Valley

Aconcagua is a principal wine region of Chile encompassing all wine-growing areas in the Valparaíso Region just north of Santiago.  It is very hot and dry for fine grapes and best suited to producing top red wines. Aconcagua also includes many cooler high-altitude sections which is ideal for producing white wines.

Wine Tours in Curicó Valley

One of Chile’s oldest and largest wine regions, the Curicó Valley is directly south of the Colchagua Valley. Because of its diverse microclimates, both red and white varieties grow well here. The Curicó Valley produces nearly a quarter of Chilean wine from less than one fifth of the country’s vineyards. The valley’s flat terrain allows for higher yields.  San Pedro Winery and Viña Miguel Torres are two of the main wineries located in Curicó.

Wine Tours in Limari Valley

Limari is one of Chile’s newer wine regions, and it’s up north in the Coquimbo Region – but not as far north as Elqui – Chile’s famous pisco region.  The grapes produced in this region have a much richer volume and high acidity levels.

Visitors can schedule a tour at Viña Tabalí, the sister winery to Viña Leyda, both of which are owned by Guillermo Luksic.

Wine Tours in Maipo Valley

The Maipo Valley is Chile’s oldest and most famous growing area just south of Santiago, Chile’s capital city. Although Maipo isn’t the largest area, it contains a considerable concentration of vineyards and a large representation of top producers, largely due to its close proximity to Santiago. The official areas within the Maipo Valley are Buin, Isla de Maipo, Melipilla, Pirque, Pueto Alto, Santiago, and Talagante.

Cabernet Sauvignon is king in this region, and Merlot also does very well.  Some of the prominent estates today include Cousiño Macul, San Pedro, Errazuriz, Santa Rita, Concha y Toro, and Viña Undurraga. These six wine estates plus those of Caliterra, Los Vascos, Santa Carolina, Saint Morillon, and Walnut Crest account for almost 90 percent of the Chilean wines exported to the United States.

Ranked as “Most Admired Wine Brand in the World,” Vina Concha y Toro is Chile’s largest producer of wine.  Wine tours at Vina Concha y Toro are given just on the outskirts of downtown Santiago in the town of Pirque.  Visitors can enjoy wine and food at this modern facility along with a stroll through the century old gardens and vineyards.
